TIME: The Real Cost of Cheap Food

"He's raised on grass and hay and lives happily on a pasture by the ocean. His meat is free of antibiotics, but can we afford to eat it? We can't afford not to." Read the TIME Magazine cover story here.

Yoginistas!

What’s good for mom is good for baby!

Of course, not everyone is comfortable doing yoga during their pregnancy and as with any other exercise routine, one should consult their physician first (and wait for the morning sickness to pass!) before continuing/beginning class. (Also, one should be sure to ease into their practice and listen to body queues). But for those who are able, yoga can be a great, low impact form of exercise during pregnancy, providing time to deeply connect/reconnect with oneself and with the little being growing inside.
Prenatal yoga allows women to explore their changing body gently and without judgment. It can help relieve pain associated with the physical changes that come with pregnancy. As pregnancy progresses, the growth of the belly and breasts may contribute to back pain; yoga strengthens and straightens the spine, alleviating pain, regulating posture, and preparing a woman for the physically demanding job of carrying the baby, both before and after the birth.
The meditative nature of yoga quiets the mind, decreasing anxiety, stress and fatigue, developing a peaceful state of mind for mom and a healthier internal environment for the baby.
A regular yoga practice can be beneficial during labour; hip flexibility can help push the baby through the canal during birth and strong breathing techniques can aid during the difficulty of labour and delivery.
As we said, we have a lot of moms-to-be at Bamboomoves, but there is always room for more. We currently offer private prenatal sessions and have prenatal yoga on Fridays at 6:30pm; starting Monday, September 14th, we will also have a 1:30 – 2:30pm prenatal class… So if you are expecting, please come join us and reap the benefits that will last long after delivery.
